bX for Your Library

Local Service, Global Reach: Empower patrons with usage-based recommendations

If part of the library’s mission is to help users find and access relevant scholarly material to support research and learning activities, bX brings libraries and users alike a step closer towards fulfilling this mission.

By providing bX recommendations to your library users, you enable them to plug into the power of usage information generated by the vast online scholar community across the globe.

Generating article recommendations are just the first step.  Additional services based on usage data analysis will be available to your library in the near future, including trend analytics for collection development and usage-based metrics for scholarly evaluation.

Up and Running within Hours in a Software-as-a-Service Environment

The bX Recommender is offered as an on-demand service, meaning that there is nothing to install or maintain on your network.  Just complete the self-registration process online and be up and running in one business day.

bX recommendations are delivered to your library’s system, so users can immediately start seeing recommendations using their existing login credentials.  And because bX recommendations are so intuitive and delivered directly to their familiar scholarly discovery environment, users need absolutely no training and can right away start benefiting from the service.

Make Your User Input Count: Become a Contributor to the bX Project

Once your institution signs up for the bX service, it can also contribute usage data to the service.  Although such contribution is not a requirement for using the service, any additional usage data will enhance the quality of recommendations provided to the entire subscriber community.

Institutions that contribute usage data to bX enjoy an enhanced level of granularity when viewing recommendations.  In addition to those based on global usage, recommendations can be generated based on usage at their own institution, their consortium, and peer institutions.

“We are very enthusiastic about the bX Recommender service.  We view this as a very important piece of the triangle of the Discovery-Recommendation-Fulfillment process.”
